When we brought 550 singers to cover Space Oddity at the Art Gallery of Ontario six days after David Bowie's death, there was no way we could have expected the video would be viewed by millions and, eventually, lead to performances at Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall. But that’s exactly what happened when Michael Dorf from City Winery invited us to join the "Music Of" David Bowie tribute concerts in New York City held last week.
Long story short, DaBu taught their arrangement to members of Choir! Choir! Choir! and the New York City Children’s Chorus, while the star-studded choir - made up of the featured performers like Debbie Harry, Wayne Coyne, Bettye Lavette, Mumford & Sons, Sean Lennon, to name a few! - joined the sold-out audience from each night who sang the lead as the encore. To get the full story, Nobu wrote up a diary in the Toronto Star. They also ran a piece leading up to the event.
It was a magical experience that we’ll never forget. The reviews in Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, and Vulture are something else and Time took some awesome backstage snaps. We feel so lucky and honoured to have been part of such a celebratory and emotional send off to one of the greatest artists of our time.
